Job Summary

The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating engaging learning experiences that enhance employee performance and support organizational development initiatives. This role partners with subject matter experts (SMEs) and cross-functional teams to create innovative and effective training solutions, including e-learning, instructor-led training (ILT), virtual instructor-led training (vILT), job aids, and performance support tools.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

  • Conducts needs assessments and partners with stakeholders to define learning objectives and desired performance outcomes.
  • Designs, develops, and implements engaging, accessible, and interactive learning solutions for employees and clients using proven instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) and adult learning principles.
  • Leads end-to-end project management for learning initiatives, ensuring timely delivery, consistent learner experiences, and alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborates effectively with subject matter experts, business partners, and stakeholders to ensure learning content meets organizational standards and learner needs.
  • Creates and maintains role-specific learning paths and curricula for onboarding, compliance, leadership development, and upskilling.
  • Develops and implements strategies to measure learning effectiveness, learner engagement, and business impact; tracks and reports related metrics.
  • Ensures content quality, branding, and tone consistency across all training materials and platforms.
  • Publishes and monitors course performance within the Learning Management System (LMS); manages version control and content updates as needed.
  • Develops and maintains centralized learning tools, templates, and resources.
  • Continuously adopts and applies new instructional technologies and remains current with industry trends and innovations.
  • Contributes thought leadership in instructional design and learning strategy.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Education, Skills, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience designing and developing instructional materials in a corporate or academic environment.
  • Proficiency in instructional design software and authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Vyond, Rise, Canva, LMS platforms).
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, e-learning standards (SCORM/xAPI), and accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in English is necessary for job-related communication, including understanding policies, writing correspondence, and engaging with colleagues or clients.

Preferred Education, Skills, & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Paylocity, Workday Learning, Cornerstone, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with video production, podcast development, or microlearning formats.
  • Experience supporting DEIBA learning initiatives and compliance training development.
  • Instructional design certifications (e.g., ATD, CPLP, IDOL, or similar).

Working Environment

  • The office environment is a controlled indoor setting with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
  • Noise levels in the office are typically moderate and consistent with a standard office setting.
  • For employees approved to work in a hybrid or remote setting, a quiet, private workspace free from significant distractions is required to ensure productivity during work hours.
  • A reliable internet connection is required for hybrid/remote work. EMS|MC will provide necessary equipment, including a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset.

  • Sitting: frequent and prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
  • Communication: frequent and prolonged periods of speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Fine motor skills: frequent use of hands for typing and operating a computer mouse.
  • Movement: occasional walking and climbing of stairs; limited bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying of office-related items.
  • Travel: must be able to travel occasionally to attend required company meetings.
