Job Description

Are you an ambitious and analytical thinker excited about solving real-world transportation challenges? At Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU), we’re looking for a passionate Entry-Level Traffic Operations Engineer to join our collaborative, creative team.

You’ll contribute to projects that improve roadway safety, reduce congestion, and shape the future of mobility across communities. Whether it’s optimizing a signal corridor, evaluating crash data, or supporting multimodal corridor studies, you’ll grow alongside experienced mentors while making a tangible impact.

What you will do:

  • Assist in delivering diverse traffic and transportation projects—from traffic impact studies to safety assessments and feasibility analyses.
  • Analyze traffic data and evaluate transportation system performance using industry-standard tools.
  • Support the preparation of reports, graphics, presentations, and technical memos.
  • Help prepare proposals, cost estimates, and scopes of work with guidance from senior staff.
  • Participate in meetings and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Learn and apply modeling, simulation, and analytical software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, TransModeler, ArcGIS Pro, etc.).
  • Grow in your knowledge of national guidance (MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, AASHTO Green Book, etc.) and local agency standards.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or related field. A master’s degree with a focus on Transportation is a plus.

Experience:

  • 0–3 years of professional experience, including internships, co-ops, or research.

Skills & Tools:

  • Familiarity with Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, or similar tools is helpful.
  • Basic programming or data skills (e.g., Python, R, Excel VBA, GIS) are a bonus.

Certifications:

  • Engineering Intern (EI/EIT) certification, obtained or in progress preferred.

The pay for this position has a range of $73,000 - $90,000 annually. The actual offer will carefully consider a range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
